Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Relay for Life

Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services. It is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them.

The Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Relay for Life 2013 commitee were looking for members for their marketing team and specifically a graphic designer, so I offered to design all the necessary marketing materials for the event, and even participated in the event itself.

The event had several associated brands that needed to be incorporated into its marketing materials. Such brands included the Australian Cancer Council, Relay For Life, and Hornsby Shire Council. Ensuring that these brands were presented cohesively and respectfully were a top priority.

I also attended weekly meetings with the Relay for Life Committee and its chairs to establish an effective marketing strategy.

The overall theme of the event that needed to be communicated visually was: fresh, exciting and engaging, a sense of fun and community.

The printed marketing materials that needed to be created included an event program, flyers, and invitations. Creating these was relatively easy given the strong branding, sense of purpose, and fun and rewarding “client”.
